Special Vista and Windows 7 considerations for
Click-N-Type V3.03

You no longer have to be an "Administrator" to install or run Click-N-Type. However, you need to have "Administrator" Privileges to install Click-N-Type and its Add-ons. If your account is a "Standard User", Vista will prompt you for an Administrator/Password to use while installing. If your account is already an "Administrator", you will simply be prompted to "Allow" the installation to continue.

We want to offer special thanks to Jim Brewer at Alpha Computer Systems in Albemarle NC 704-983-8702, for allowing us to use Vista and Windows 7 systems for an extended length of time free of charge. Without his help, we could not have developed Vista or Windows 7 compatible versions of our software.

Installing the Basic Click-N-Type keyboard:

Download and run "CNTzip.exe". Vista's "User Account Control" will force you to supply an Administrator's name and password if you're not an "Administrator". Otherwise, just click "Allow" to install Click-N-Type.

Known Issues:

Currently Click-N-Type is unable to send keys to programs that have been started by the User Account Control. There are several work-arounds for this problem. You may use any of them:

Close Click-N-Type and restart it by Right-Clicking its shortcut and choosing "Run as administrator."
Or -

Set Click-N-Type to always run as an administrator. Caution: This will prevent it from being able to Run at Startup ^†. - Right-Click the Click-N-Type shortcut. Then choose "Properties". Under the "Compatibility" tab, check "Run this program as an Administrator".

Or -
Disable User Account Control temporarily. - Use the Control Panel and Click "User Accounts and Family Safety". Click "User Accounts" and select "Turn User Account Control on or off". Uncheck "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer." Click "Ok" and reboot.

If Windows 7 fails to schedule Click-N-Type quickly enough it causes Click-N-Type to swap focus back an forth with every click of a key, until you minimize or restart.

Applying the "Install Heavy Load Focus Fix" registry patch, from the "OS Dependent Fixes" Start Menu item, virtually eliminates this problem unless your system is too bogged down to get any program scheduled in less than 10 seconds.

There is a Vista but that sometimes doesn't allow Click-N-Type to set itself as "Always On-Top" when started at Logon. Revision [400] contains a workaround for this, but it is still possible. If Click-N-Type fails to stay On Top, on a Vista system:

Click "Options > Program Preferences..." and simply [Cancel] the pop-up window.

† You actually can run Click-N-Type at Login, with full privileges if you're an Administrator, using the Windows 7 Task Scheduler. See here for specific instructions. See here, here and here for the general methods we've used as references.

Uninstalling the Click-N-Type keyboard:

Select "Uninstall Click-N-Type" from your "Start > All Programs > Click-N-Type" menu list.
The Vista "User Account Control" will force you to supply an Administrator's name and password if you're not an "Administrator". Otherwise, just click "Allow" to continue.
Follow the Uninstall Applet directions as usual.

Word Prediction:

Download and run the "Words.exe" installation program.
The Vista "User Account Control" will force you to supply an Administrator's name and password if you're not an "Administrator". Otherwise, just click "Allow" to continue.
From now on, each user account will have its own private copy of Word Prediction. Any modification to the word list and commonly used words will be specific to each User Account.

Language Packs:

Download and run the one or more Language Pack installation programs.
The Vista "User Account Control" will force you to supply an Administrator's name and password if you're not an "Administrator". Otherwise, just click "Allow" to continue.
The next time any User runs Click-N-Type, he will see the latest Language Pack you installed. All installed Language Configurations will be available to all User accounts.
- Any choice of Language Configuration or modification to the a language specific Word Prediction list and commonly used words will be specific to each User Account.

CNT-Administration:

Download and run "CNT-Administration-setup.exe". "User Account Control" will force you to supply an Administrator's name and password if you're not an "Administrator". Otherwise, just click "Allow" to install CNT-Administration.
Log-onto each account you want to administer and use CNTAdmin and/or CNTClone as before.
- As always, an account to be cloned must be an "Administrator" at the "Export" time. Prior to Vista, the "Export" simply failed if this was not so. Under Vista, failure to become an "Administrator" prior to running CNTClone will result in Exporting the settings of the Administrator's account you chose to "run as" (rather than your own) when the UAC prompted you! Your account may then be returned to "Standard User" if need be.

LC-Configure:

Download and run "LC-Config-setup.exe". "User Account Control" will force you to supply an Administrator's name and password if you're not an "Administrator". Otherwise, click "Allow" to install LC-Configure.
Each time you run LC-Configure, "User Account Control" will force you to supply an Administrator's name and password if you're not an "Administrator". Otherwise, just click "Allow". This is because you are configuring Language Configurations for all Click-N-Type users.
